The UAE National day, which falls on the 2nd of December, is a very special day in the year. The UOS IEEE SB celebrated that day on the 29th of November. The event took place in the Engineering College building. The place was filled with balloons and flags and the sound of national songs and the classy scent of local Bokhour. Students were served arabian coffee, and chocolates coated with the UOS IEEE logo and the UAE national flag. Students who attended the event, joined us in writing on a big board words of praise, which expressed our loyalty and love to the United Arab Emirates.

Robotics Workshop
Building robots may sound like a very complicated topic, but on November 27th, University of Sharjah students learned how to build them. It was a good opportunity for electrical and computer engineering students to learn the fundamentals of Robotics, and to explore the fascinating world of Robotics. As it has been a tradition by the UOS IEEE Student Branch & IEEE Robo UOS club, we continued delivering the Lego NXT robotics workshops. This time, the workshop was delivered by Ahmad Salhin (who was once just a participant) along with some help from Rami Shublaq and Malik Salah. The workshop included a presentation about the complexity of robots, the different mechanical and electrical components (LEGO MINDSTORM components), and finally, putting it all together and programming the newly created robot. The participants were excited and had really enjoyed the workshop, as it was their first time to create and interact with such devices.

IEEE Day 2011
The IEEE Day is a project firstly proposed by SÃ¥alima Kaissi, Region 8 GOLD “Graduates Of the Last Decade” member, and further developed in a group of interested GOLD and Students volunteers.
The goal for IEEE Day is an ambitious target of 100,000 online actions between all the IEEE Day networking channels.
On the 6th of October, 2011, the UOS IEEE Student Branch celebrated the second anniversary of the international event “IEEE Day”. With all the students and professors from the ECE department gathered in the Biruni Hall, wearing the specially designed t-shirts by the official IEEE Day Team.
The event started with a presentation by Najla Essam & Omar Ahmed about the IEEE. In the presentation they introduced to the audience the IEEE and how is it related to the Electrical & Computer Engineering. In the same time they explained to the students why is it extremely beneficial to join the IEEE.
Following that was a presentation about the IEEE Student day; a section wide competition that challenges the IEEE student members in design and creativity. It also involves students senior projects and professional IEEE members projects. The presenter, Eng. Mahmoud Nabag, a masters student at the University of Sharjah, explained the categories of the next IEEE Student day competition and encouraged the students to participate in it.
The last talk was by Kareem Ibrahim; a computer engineering student. He spoke about his internship in Germany and the great experience he had over there. He also encouraged the students to work hard and look for similar opportunities.
Then we moved to the exciting part of the event, “The Cake”, which had a big IEEE logo on it. It was very delicious and everybody enjoyed it. In the meanwhile students were having small talks, taking photographs and sharing the joy of the IEEE day.
Finally it was time for the group photo. We took a lot of photos but the most interesting was the one where we formed the IEEE letters sitting in the Engineering College hall, it was the same photo that we participated with in the IEEE day photo contest, a tradition that started with the first IEEE Day last year. It was such a wonderful day and we were really honored by the attendance of the doctors and professors of the ECE Department.
