MATLAB “Matrix Laboratory” is a numerical computing environment and language, where you can solve technical computing problems faster than using the traditional programming languages, such as C, C++, and FORTRAN. And due to its importance specially for the engineering students, our UOS-IEEE student branch organized a MATLAB workshop on February 29th 2012 in the Men's Central Laboratories. The workshop was given by Abdullah Yousef where he provided a background about the software and covered the most needed skills and tips, and the basic MATLAB commands plus some basic functions. The students were amazed by the capability and ease of this software, and it was a very useful workshop that they asked for another advanced one.

Movie Time
Movie Time started as an idea by Ahmed Salhin and Hassan Salam, and now the UOS IEEE Student Branch is hosting a weekly documentary that goes by the name of “IEEE Movie Time.” All the documentaries are related to technological topics, e.g. since the event started on the 9th of Feb. we have played: Inside the mind of google by CNBC channel and the series 2057 by the Discovery Channel, which both are free to watch online. We are hoping by showing such documentaries that the student will enjoy their time and learn new information. At the end of each documentary we ask couple of questions based on the movie and give prizes for those who answer correctly.

Here We Go Again !
The event “Here we go again!” was a gathering to welcome the students to the second semester of the year and show them a glimpse of our upcoming events. The naming itself implies that once more we are going to continue what we started in the first semester, but this time with greater enthusiasm, ambition, and more events! It was held on the 9th of February, and was the best way to start the second semester. Not only did it make the students excited about the upcoming activities of the branch but it also attracted many of them to join IEEE and be part of the big circuit of professionals.
After everyone was seated, Najla Essam, branch's vice chair, kick-started the event by presenting a promo video that advertises for the branch and the IEEE. Succeeding was a presentation by Rami Shublaq, branch's chair. Again in this event Rami tried to explain to the new students who've just joined the IEEE and remind those who are already members of the main purpose of the IEEE. In addition, he talked about its history and the benefits of joining it. He also talked about the Student Branches and their location in the IEEE organizational chart, and how is that the active student members are a very important part of the IEEE.
Next was Ahmed Salhin, branch's secretary, with a presentation showing what the branch is preparing for the students in the upcoming few months. His presentation included plans for trips, seminars, workshops, and other exciting activities. Finally it was time to involve the audience in the event, with a very challenging Knowledge Quiz. It was a very fun part, with everyone trying to win one of the prizes that were prepared specially for this event.
It was such a joy for the organizers to put together such a nice event, and to see that their hard work really paid off at the end. The event had a very good number of attendees from all ECE department levels. Moreover, it had a major impact on the statistics of the branch members and they started to rapidly increase there after.
